This experience explores Virtual Reality as a means of partcipatory design focused on shelter temporary architecture.
Design
The participatoty platform was developed as part of the post-doctoral research “Healthy Housing for the Displaced” conducted by the University of Bath and funded by the EPSRC.
Three architectural designs were transfered in Virtual Reality where the refugees had the oportunity to experience them, comment on them and introduce realtime changes according to specific design rules.
The workshop took place over 4 days in Azraq and Za’atari refugee camps featuring 40 participants of mixed age and background. The users' designed were then collected and re-examined by the architects that initially designed them. Feedback from the refugees that participated in the research was also collected in order to evaluate Virtual Reality as a means of particpatory design.
